The Seattle Collaborative Law Center, PLLC is the realization of a dream that started in 2008 when I took my introductory Collaborative Training and experienced a personal and professional sense of “Coming Home”. Since my introductory training I have thrown myself into exploring and understanding Collaborative Practice, and leadership within the Collaborative Community, at deeper and deeper levels, having the good fortune to travel this path in a Collaborative Community replete with Collaborative pioneers and innovators generous with their time and support. My path has taken me from writing blogs and articles, to taking leadership roles in the Collaborative Community here in Washington State and most recently as a Board Member of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals, the Collaborative Community’s organizing body. From the start of my Collaborative work it has been clear to me that a legal process that incorporates the tenets of good faith, respect, informed consent, and full disclosure is a more humanistic approach to conflict resolution, an antidote to the emotional, psychological and financial damage that often accompanies the alternative dispute resolution model that litigation is becoming. The vast majority of people do not want to go to war. They want safety, to be heard, financial sufficiency, their children to be given the best chance of being healthy human beings, and a result that reflects their idea of what is fair and just rather than to have one imposed on them through the coercion of a settlement conference or a decision from a third party who cannot possibly know them, their children, or their underlying needs and interests.
