He made his way to NYC earning his Doctorate degree from Columbia University with a specialization in orthopedic rehabilitation. He continues to improve his practice by participating in continuing education courses provided by the Institute for Physical Art, Postural Restoration Institute, System One80, RockTape, and KOH Practice Philosophy Ryan believes that Physical Therapy is an art. It takes dedication, precision, and time. He believes that a hands on Functional Manual Therapy approach to physical therapy is the most effective and efficient way to improve the function of his patients. “Functional Manual Therapy® is an integrated and seamless treatment system which couples mechanical treatment of the joints, soft tissues, visceral and neurovascular systems with manual neuromuscular facilitation to enhance optimum motor control and human function.” – Institute of Physical Art Dance Therapy While at Columbia, Ryan took an interest in dance/performance medicine learning from Broadway renowned, and fellow Columbia Physical Therapy alumnus, Cameron Gomez. It didn't take long for Ryan to make his Broadway debut (backstage is close enough, right?), becoming the lead physical therapist for Aladdin on Broadway.
