Dawn has been a graphic designer since her first position with a small print-shop in 1982. Pre-computer, in case you're curious. Although it was only a small shop, the owner was a forward-thinker. He decided to invest in a Mac - the original all-in-one machine with no hard drive and a mouse - an alien object in those days - after attending a trade show featuring it as the cutting-edge tech for graphics production. It was originally purchased to allow customers to produce their own artwork. No one understood how to work the tiny Mac and it sat idle for months. Unwilling to allow a pricey investment go unused, Dawn was asked to begin creating artwork on the small machine. She enjoyed the challenge and was soon hooked. In 1986, she started her freelance company while retaining her full-time job with the purchase of a Mac II. She bought the version with the largest hard drive available, a scanner and quality laser printer. Convincing potential clients to try her services was a challenge - no one seemed willing to put their trust in the new technology. She finally secured her first client a couple of months after her purchase and he is still her client today. Since then, Dawn has worked several outside jobs for a variety of companies, giving her a well-rounded understanding of many different print technologies. Her work experience includes traditional typesetting/keylining/camera, typeface production, flexographic printing, screen printing, prepress, packaging (including advanced printing techniques such as hexachrome, embossing and varnishes), and large format file prep for 80" presses. In 2007, Dawn made the decision to go completely freelance. With the advent of the online job marketplace opportunities, this was the perfect time to do so. Face-to-face meetings to secure new clients were unnecessary. Since then, Dawn has had great success in securing business worldwide. Her design capabilities were challenged with requests for an ever-expanding list of projects she had not done in her outside jobs. She has moved from a print-only designer to web graphics of all kinds.
