Welcome! How can I be of help? Maybe you can put the answer into words easily, or maybe you know only that something is not right. Whatever your situation, I invite you to come in and talk with me. I received my doctorate over 10 years ago and have trained and researched in a variety of specialties. Because research has shown the therapeutic relationship to be the strongest predictor of treatment outcome, it will be very important to make sure working together feels like a good fit. I will work with you to figure out what approach might be most useful. Together, we will try to understand what is going on and what will be helpful. Before starting my private practice in Annapolis, I did clinical research on the treatment of eating, anxiety and mood disorders at the NIMH and on weight management in children and adults at Georgetown University Hospital Center and The Uniformed Service University of Health Sciences. I received my doctorate from The American University in Washington, DC in 1998 and completed a two years of post-graduate training in the Clinical Program on Psychotherapy Practice at the Washington School of Psychiatry in 2004. Cheryl Rubenstein, Ph.D., is licensed in the state of Maryland (License no. 04510). I have worked in a variety of settings and draw from advanced training in cognitive behavioral therapy, attachment theory, psychodynamic and mindfulness-based practices. I provide psychotherapy for people who feel depressed or anxious, have eating disorders, body image issues, difficulties in relationships, obsessions, compulsions, or have been traumatized (PTSD). I also offer treatment for post-partum depression/anxiety and support for all moms adjusting to the joys and challenges of a baby. I offer individual, couple's, group and family therapy. Having conducted and published extensive research regarding different psychotherapeutic and drug treatments, I am well-qualified to help you figure out what will help.
