Alan says, “I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, and my grandmother lived in Charleston, South Carolina. As her abilities began to be limited by her age, my father and his brother were concerned that our distance would make it unsafe for her to continue to live in her home. Fortunately, they found a special home-care aide and Grandma was able to live out her days in comfort at home. I was young at the time, but now I see the value of what that meant to my dad and his brother—to know their mother was cared for and maintained her dignity.
